Charles Lee Schneider passed away Sunday morning on July 31, 2016 at The Regency House in San Angelo. A memorial Service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on August 8, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., and will be officiated by Tommy King.
Charles was born on February 6, 1929 in Ozona, Texas, the Only child of Robert Lee and Myrtle (Feist) Schneider. During his school years in Ozona, his sweet disposition earned him the nickname “Sugg” …a moniker which is still used by a select set of old time friends. After graduating from Ozona High School in 1947, Charles went to Angelo State Jr. College before going on to North Texas State University in Denton, TX where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Charles returned to Ozona and began working in the Post Office where he met his future bride, Gussie Ruth Sparks, who had just started working there after graduating from high school. They married May 2, 1952. After a period of serious Bible study with Gussie’s brother, Burl Sparks, Charles was baptized into Christ in 1957. He spent the rest of his life following Christ and was a dedicated student of God’s word. Charles and Gussie raised their two sons in a Christian home and were members of Ozona Church of Christ. Charles worked at the post office in Ozona for 39 years. He was the Assistant Post Master when he retired in 1990. Charles and Gussie moved to San Angelo in 1994. They have been well known and loved by fellow members of the 9th and Main Church of Christ.
Charles always loved working out and took great pride in staying in shape. Throughout his life he played basketball, tennis, golf, lifted weights and was still riding his bike 5 miles a day as recently as a year ago.
Charles is survived by Gussie, his wife of 64 years; son, Mike and his wife Stephanie of Cheyenne, WY; son, Ronnie and his wife Kelly of San Angelo; granddaughter Monica Huntington and her husband Bob of Cheyenne, WY; granddaughter, Jessica Schneider of Cheyenne, WY; granddaughter, Kathy Schneider of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Brock Huntington and Micaela Huntington of Cheyenne, WY.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Hospice of San Angelo, all their staff, and especially to Debbie Bishop, Shirley Jones, and Veronica Dominguez for their loving care throughout this journey. They would also like to thank Dr. Dusty Anderton and Penny Griffin for the care they have given Charles for many years and the nurses at Regency for their most recent care.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo. (HOSA)
