Our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Joy Lee Shaw Gallion, 79, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016, with her family at her side. Her parents, Howard and Helen Shaw, named her Joy, on November 22, 1936, in West Palm Beach, Florida, because that is what she brought to them the day she was born, after losing their first daughter, Frances Marie Shaw, as an infant. She brought "joy" to many and her "joy" was her family.Joy married, Donald Gallion, on August 20th, 1955 and together they enjoyed 45 years of marriage, until his passing on September 6th, 2000.
They had four children born into this marriage, one daughter, "Jacie" Jacquelyn Cortese, and three sons, Donald II, Raymond, "Butch" Ralph Gallion and she loved their spouses as her special daughters, Glennda and Patricia, and her special son, Gary. They were blessed with eight grand children, Donald III, Raymond II, Christina, Howard, Travis, Brittney, Amber and Joseph, along with 17 great grand children. Joy is survived by her brother Don Shaw & wife Carol, sisters in law, Virginia Shaw, Edie Flury, Arlene Meddles, Peggy Gallion, and brother in law Ellis Gallion & wife Phyllis. Joy also is survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother, "Buddy" Howard Shaw. Joy spent her first 15 years of married life as a Air Force wife and stay at home mom before going back to school. At 36 years old, Joy graduated from the San Angelo Vocational School of Nursing. Her love and first job was the Shannon Hospital Labor/Delivery department for a few years then as Dr. Edward Christensen, OB/GYN, office nurse for over 25 years. Joy loved those babies. Joy volunteered at the GAFB Pharmacy and for Meals for the Elderly during her retirement. Joy developed dementia that turned into Alzheimer's. Purple is the color for Alzheimer's awareness and was Joy's favorite color, as well. Also, anyone that knew her, knew she was the ultimate Dallas Cowboy fan. We invite those that may attend Joy's Memorial service to wear the color purple or Dallas Cowboy attire. Memorial service for Joy will be at 4:00 Monday, August 1st, 2016, in the Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, at 435 W. Beauregard. The family will be at 1717 Amhurst Drive over the weekend.Arrangements under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX.
