Jack L. Meyer, 85, was born on September 12, 1930 in Houston, Texas and passed away on July 25, 2016 in San Angelo, Texas. He was the second son of Alma Agnes Meyer (nee Riser) and John Henry Meyer. After graduating from Milby High School in Houston, he attended the University of Texas at Austin before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. One of the proudest times of his life was being a part of the team that developed the Terrier missile, the first surface-to-air missile to successfully shoot down an airplane. While in the Marines, Jack met and married Elizabeth Anne (Dixie) Rothwell of England. They married July 17, 1951 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. At the end of his enlistment, he returned to the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent his career building large and high-rise buildings that changed the skyline of virtually every major city throughout the United States. His most recognizable projects in Texas include the Astrodome, DFW Airport and Reunion Tower in Dallas. Upon retirement, Jack and Dixie moved to San Diego where they spent 23 wonderful years. They just recently returned to Texas to be with family. Jack is survived by his wife Dixie; son Robert; daughter-in-law Louellen; daughter Marsi; grandchildren Vic and Vivian Meyer; grandchildren Chelsi Haile and Payton Beall; great-grandson Ledger Telthorst, and his beloved dachshunds Sam and Cody. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 29 at 4:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo, Texas with Rev. Joel Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Johnson's Funeral Home.
