Mavis Pauline Greenway Hughes, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, June 30, 2016. She was born October 20, 1926 in Colbert, Oklahoma to Bert and Anna Mae (Potter) Greenway. Mavis married the love of her life John William (J.W.) Hughes Jr. on August 30, 1946. They were married for 64 years. Mavis was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. from 1957 until her retirement in June 1987 from her position as soft-line supervisor. She was a long-time and active member of First Baptist. Church, San Angelo from 1948 until her death. Mrs. Hughes was a member and past President of the Concho Pearl Lions Club, a 20 years member of Meals for the Elderly Advisory Board including a term as President of the Board, and auxiliary volunteer at the San Angelo Community Medical Center. Mavis Hughes is survived by her daughter Vicki Jefferies & her husband Greg, her son Randy & wife Belinda; grandchildren Carrie Ledet, Leigh Paille, Kelley Hughes, Randye Dunlap, Andrew Hughes (Hope),John Jefferies, and James Jefferies. Also great grandchildren Jarrett Hill, Clayton Hill, Michael Hughes Guillen, Trey Baker, Preston Hughes, and Luke Ledet. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church, San Angelo (corner of Harris & Oakes). Pallbearers will be James Jefferies, Andrew Hughes, Jarrett Hill, Clayton Hill, Michael Hughes Guillen, Trey Baker, Preston Hughes, Luke Ledet, and John Jefferies. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contribution in honor of Mavis Hughes be directed to: Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903.
