Jose “Chema” Maria G. Gonzalez, 78, of San Angelo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at a local care center.
Rosary will be 7:00pm Friday June 3, 2016 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.
Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Chema was born April 10, 1938 in San Vicente, Mexico to Antonio Gonzalez and Herminia (Gonzalez) Gonzalez Perez. His mother passed when he was very young and he was raised by his step mother; Augustina Gonzalez.
He worked as a ranch hand and at Producers Livestock for many years. He liked the rodeo, riding bulls as a young man, loved watching western movies, spending time outside, playing washers and time with his grandchildren. Known to many as “Grandpa”.
Pallbearers are Ruben Navarro, Joseph Vara, Raymond Reyna, Pete Lopez, Joe Charles and Eric Martinez.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Nina Charles, two brothers; Martin Gonzalez and Fidencio Gonzalez, sister; Maria (CuCa) Roman, two grandsons; Manuel Martinez Jr, and Johnny Vara.
Jose is survived by step daughters, Pauline Martinez (Manuel), Rosie Reyna (Pete Lopez), Mary Vara (Joe) and step son, Louis Charles (Maria) all of San Angelo, sisters; Maria V. Gonzalez, Olga Serrano, Rosa Gonzalez, Esperanza Gonzalez and Juana Gonzalez de Juarez, brothers; Domingo, Jose A. and Antonio Gonzalez and 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
