Norma Jean Sproul Hunnicutt was born in Irion County in 1926 to Robert Sproul and Ray O. Farrington Sproul. Early in life she moved with her family to Eldorado in Schleicher County where she attended the schools in Eldorado. She attended Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine. Jean's career in banking extended from banks in Eldorado to Sweetwater and Snyder before moving to San Angelo. She completed a thirty-four year tenure in the San Angelo National Bank, later purchased by Texas Commerce Bank, Houston. She took many American Institute of Banking Courses and completed a three year course in the School of Bank Administration at Wisconsin University in Madison, WI. During her tenure in banking, she served as Vice President and in many other pivotal roles in bank operations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Her spirit of kindness and generosity made an indelible mark that will be remembered by both family and friends. She is preceded in death by C. Preston Hunnicutt, her husband of 57 years, her parents, one brother, Robert Sproul Jr. of Springfield, VA., and several nephews, Paul Guthrie of Kemah, TX. and Scott Guthrie of San Antonio. Jean is survived by her daughter, Jan Varner and her husband James W. Varner of Andrews, grandsons Brook Varner of Andrews and Robert Luke Varner of Fort Worth, TX. Also surviving are two sisters; Bette J. Allen of San Antonio and Mary Sessums of San Angelo, TX., one brother, C.R. Sproul and wife, Deene Sproul of Eldorado, TX. and many nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Dr. James Hassell officiating. Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
