Dana Kay Shults McCabe passed away Friday, April 16, 2016 in San Angelo, Texas surrounded by her children that loved her dearly. Dana was born September 23, 1940 to James and Nedra Shults in Brownwood, Texas. She attended elementary and jr. high in Odessa, Texas and graduated high school from Grandfalls-Royalty. She married the love of her life, John S. McCabe on April 15, 1960, they were reunited in heaven one day following their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary. Dana was a dedicated wifewho loved her husband and supported his career, that of an educator. Their life together led them to the towns of Alpine, Rosenburg, Grandfalls, Bangs, and Abilene, Texas. Dana was employed with Bangs ISD, Abilene ISD, as well as a banking officer in Abilene. She treasured the friendships that were made while working for these school and banking systems. Many of her favorite times were spent traveling with her husband, spending time with her four grandchildren, and sitting on the deck of their Ruidoso home.
Dana’s love and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and “Mimi” who cherished every opportunity to be with her loved ones. Dana is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Barron of San Angelo, Kelly McCabe Kelly and son-in-law, Mark Kelly of El Paso, and one son, John S. McCabe II of San Angelo; grandchildren, Cierra and husband Greg Garso, Tyler and Madison Barron, and Alexandra Kelly. Dana is also survived by brother-in-law Robert McCabe and sister-in-law, Marie McCabe, sister-in-law Kaye Nassette, and brother-in law William McCabe and sister-in-law, Belinda McCabe, and dear friend Mary Dell Barron. She was survived by several cousins and close friends.
Pall bearers will be Tommy Martinez, Rodney Murphy, Billy Jack Rankin,Chandler Stovall and Stan Roberts. Honorary pall bearers are Garner McClatchey, Patrick McGee and Dean Taggart.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the many caregivers that have helped the family over that last few years, a special thank you to Meadow Creek Nursing Home in San Angelo, Hospice of San Angelo, and faithful caregiver Nancy Moore.
Family will welcome visitors at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Southland Baptist Church, San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 11:00; graveside will be at 3:00 at the Cross Cut Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of San Angelo, 36 E. Twohig Ave., #1100, San Angelo, TX 76903 or your favorite charity.
