Guillermo Salazar Alvarado, 77, longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones in his home on Friday, April 15, 2016. He was born to the late, Jose and Peidad Salazar Alvarado on February 9, 1939 in San Jose de Morteros, Nieves Zacatecas, Mexico. Guillermo was always proud of his heritage and provided help to countless others wanting to follow his lead to becoming American citizens throughout his lifetime with his wife, Petra. They were married on November 3, 1958 in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico. He worked as a foreman in the construction business as well as in ranching and eventually ran his own greenhouse. He was of Christian faith. It has been said that Guillermo was a man of greatness; full of great integrity, great character, great strength and a great ability to give freely of himself, his time and his wisdom. He was a family man, in every sense of the phrase. His children recall his discipline being fair and always accompanied with a lesson. It was just one way his integrity was evident to others. He believed in finishing whatever you may have started and owning your mistakes, always learning from his own and sharing the lesson with others. His tireless devotion to his family and the principles he leaves with them are an inspiration to those he knew. Guillermo will be missed greatly, but his mark on the lives of those he leaves behind will forever live on through his lessons of generosity and love accompanied by respect and a strong will. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Fernando Alvarado and Maria Alvarado; and sister, Enriqueta A. Martinez.
