Paul Alan Nelson, 51, of San Angelo, died at his home on Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was born to Gordon Ellis and Isabelle Catherine "Kate" Van Wingen Nelson on September 1, 1964 in Tripoli, Lybia. Paul began his life abroad the minute he was born and continued to experience a lifetime of traveling and different cultures into adulthood. He spent several years most recently in Korea, where he taught students the English language. He was working on his doctorate at the time of his death. It has been said that Paul never met a stranger. It never failed, that no matter where he went, he knew someone or made a new friend. One of his greatest joys was searching out and collecting The Beetles memorabilia. His collection leaves one in awe. Paul's life was full and he will be missed greatly. Paul is preceded in death by his brother, John Mark Nelson.
Survivors include his parents, Gordon and Kate Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Michele Nelson; nieces, Emily, Melanie and Becky; as well as a host of other relatives and friends, including his cat, DJ.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A graveside celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.
