Charline Walter Usery Layman, 83 of San Angelo, passed from these earthly boundaries and was accepted into her heavenly reward on April 7, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
Family visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service is at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Harvest Baptist Church with Brother Ron Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Charline was born August 30, 1932 in Scott, Arkansas to parents John Thomas and Zepher Ard Walter. Charline grew up on the farm in Scott, Arkansas and attended schools in Scott and in Benton, Arkansas. She married Vernon Usery in 1949 and together they had four children. They moved to San Angelo when Vernon accepted a sales position with Eoff Furniture Company in December 1959; where she remained until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon in 1969. She remarried, in 1970 to James A. Layman, who preceded her in 1997.
Survivors include her children: Dale Usery and wife Cindy of Abilene, Texas, Tommy Usery and wife Brenda of The Woodlands, Texas, and Lois Usery Kelly and husband Bob of Grape Creek, Texas; sisters: Dorothy Walter Dobbs of Casscoe, Arkansas and Margaret Drake Brewer of Jackson, Tennessee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles E. Usery, Sr. formerly of Sioux City, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Maxine Walter of Scott, Arkansas, Clarence Walter and Ruth Walter Gray of Benton, Arkansas, Thomas Walter (KIA – Normandy Invasion), John Robert Walter of Scott, Arkansas, Rev. John Thomas Walter of Marion, Arkansas, Allen Walter of San Angelo, Louise Walter Jackson of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Lorene Walter Hogan of Andrews, North Carolina, and John Drake of Stuttgart, Arkansas.
