Behrens, Bernice Oualline, 86, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28, 2016. Bernice was born September 5, 1929 in Elizabeth, Arkansas to George James and Clara Esta Cantrell Stephens.
She grew up happily with her eight siblings in the Southern Ozark Mountains, attending school in nearby Viola, where she played on the basketball team.
She met and later married the father of her children, Henry P. Behrens in Woodward, OK in 1947. Bernice was a loving homemaker as the wife of a U.S. Air Force Officer, raising her children as they moved from base to base. She was a woman of strength and faith, strict discipline and good moral character and worked diligently to make sure her children had this foundation. Bernice started her own skin care company as an esthetician and also had a career as an ophthalmology technician. Later in her life, she sat and cared for the elderly. Bernice had many passions in life. She loved talking politics, watching FOX News and John Wayne movies, being a Dallas Cowboys fan and bowling in her spare time. Bernice was a loving Mother and Grandmother and her beautiful spirit will live on in our hearts forever! She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Dr. Phyllis I. Behrens, of Joplin, MO., Stephen “Steve” Behrens and his wife Jo, of Peyton, CO., Jameson Behrens, of Denver, CO., Henry P. “Hank” Behrens, Jr. and his wife Jana, of Wichita Falls, TX., Martin “Marty” Behrens and his wife Laura, of San Angelo, TX., and Esta O. Behrens, of Austin, TX; her Grandchildren, McKenna Behrens, Jessica Dutton and her husband Windsor, Gavin Behrens, Amy Blackwell and her husband Travis, Chad Behrens and his wife Sarah, Martie Michelle Climer and her husband Wes, Brittany Scott and her husband Jeremy and Hunter Behrens and his wife Leah. She is also survived by her 10 Great Grandchildren and 2 “On The Way.” The Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, April 1, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, TX with Dr. David Currie officiating. The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the Staff and her friends at Rio Concho Terrace, Amber, Loretta, Whitney and the staff on 5 South at Shannon Medical Center, Gentiva Hospice and especially Charee, Beth, Charlotte, Kara, Christina (who always made Mom laugh), and the entire Staff at Senior Care of Meadow Creek, who provided heartfelt, exceptional care for Mom.
