Daniel Francis Cleary died March 1, 2016. He was born May 6, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Norman Victor Cleary and Clara Connor Cleary. Dan attended St. Kieran Catholic School, Connaley and Washington High School, and The University of Illinois at Urbana. Dan was a Korean War Veteran, in the U.S. Air Force, with the 5th Mule Train from January 1953 thru November 1953. Upon returning to the United States Dan married the love of his life "His Dixie" Emfinger on February 6, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri. Dan was employed by Citicorp for 35 years retiring December 1989. During their time with Citicorp Dan and Dixie lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, California, and Colorado. Dan, Dixie, and their children lived in many of the named states more than once as his business required. Upon retirement Dan and Dixie returned to Dixie's birthplace, San Angelo, Texas. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dixie, daughter Susan Ann, brother Norman, son-in-law Charles Pahira, and sister-in-law Yvonne Emfinger Oliver.
Dan is survived by his companion, Darlene Armstrong; daughters, Sherrie and husband Perry Jones of Cedar Crest, NM, Janice and husband George Gail of Placitas, NM, and Nancy and husband David Ianuario of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Bryan Jones and wife Angela, Hollie and husband Sean Brooks, Daniel Gail and wife Angel, Katherine and husband Kevin Okesson, Patrick Cleary and wife Kayleen, Tracey and husband Curtis Wilson, and Sean Pahira and wife Angie; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dan was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was a fourth degree in The Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Post 0572 American Legion.
Rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2016, at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Visitation to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial following at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
