Jose "Joe" Juarez Zapata, 88, of San Angelo, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 31, 2016. He was born to the late, Donicio and Jesusita Juarez Zapata on May 22, 1927 in Del Rio, Texas. He married Andrea Jasso also in Del Rio. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Joe was known as a hard working man, that always put others before himself. When he spoke, everyone listened. At the age of 35, he gave his life to Christ. He was dedicated to his faith and even when he got to the point in which he could barely walk, he always managed to get to church. He was a member of Eglesia Casa De Restauracion. Joe also enjoyed fishing with family and friends. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Ernest Zapata, Jr.; and siblings, Pablo Zapata, Teresa Ruiz, Delores Rodriguez and Otelia Cruz.
Survivors include his children, Jose Zapata, Jr., Maria Castaneda, Elodia Rios, Maria Herrera, Pablo Zapata, Diana Zapata, Ernest Zapata, Cynthia Zapata, and Robert Zapata; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with a time of visitation to follow. Pastor Alex Tenorio will officiate. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 also in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
