Laura (Ocker) Hennecke, 89, passed and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center (Talley House).
Laura was born September 20, 1926 in Rowena, Texas to Frank Ocker and Margaret (Feist) Ocker. She graduated from high school in Rowena, Texas and later married Andrew (Andy) Hennecke on June 1, 1948 in Rowena, Texas. Andy and Laura lived in Wall, Texas for the first part of their married life. She worked in the Wall school cafeteria for a short time and was a housewife for the remainder of her life. In 1960, Laura and Andy and their first child, Shirley, moved to the Grape Creek community. While in Grape Creek, they had three other daughters: Brenda, Carol, and Karen (twins). Laura and her family lived in the Grape Creek area for over 50 years and she was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Carlsbad, Texas.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Andrew (Andy) Hennecke; her parents Frank and Margaret Ocker; infant daughter Karen Hennecke; and her siblings Lester Ocker and Evelyn Michulka.
Survivors include her three daughters: Shirley Marsh and husband Gene, Brenda Johnson and husband Keith, and Carol Cummings and husband Todd; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Marsh) Robinson and husband Cory, Jessica (Marsh) Harlin and husband Justin, Matthew Cummings, Katie Cummings, and April Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Landon Robinson, Paxton Harlin, Landree Harlin, and Mickey Harlin; siblings: Sidona Dankworth of Austin, Bernice Michulka, and Elmer Ocker of San Angelo; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Laura was a wonderful wife, mother, Mema, Mo-Mo, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking apple cake to take for dinner at her daughters' homes. Laura was a talented seamstress and sewed her children's clothes when they were growing up. She was always the first to offer help to her family in any way that she could. She enjoyed gardening and canning food, and loved having her flower bed each year.
She was never a complainer (even with the burden of rheumatoid arthritis). Laura had a good attitude and made the best of what she had to deal with in life. People always said she was a sweet lady with a smile for you.
The joy of her life was her grandchildren and then later her great-grandchildren. They all loved her dearly and she had treats for them when they visited and stayed after school . She had a strong faith and was active in her church as long as she was able to do so. She will be missed so much and was loved so deeply by her family.
Rosary is at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9th in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10th at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Fr. Lorenzo Hatch officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
