Garland Lee Gaines, 84, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 in San Angelo. He was born to the late, Jess and Beulah Ellen King Gaines on Sunday, June 28, 1931 in Shep, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Garland married the love of his life, Rena Dee Webb on July 23, 1955 in San Angelo. He was a member of West Angelo Church of Christ. He was a former deacon as well. Garland worked as a tire technician for Goodyear for over 35 years. During his career he was a high speed driver and one of two drivers to drive across the country during a campaign in the 1960's. His work ethic was one of high standards. Garland was a member of the Pride of Flete (Goodyear Retirees). Garland and Rena enjoyed RVing across the country, photographing all of the Texas courthouses and spending time with family and friends. He was known as a sweet man with a dry sense of humor. Garland's honest character and giving nature will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and sisters, Clara Belle Deese, Annie Faye King and Lucille Middleton.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rena Gaines; son, Steve Gaines; daughter, Tonda Gaines; grandchildren, Ivye Joiner and Jesi Blacklund and her husband, Alan; great grandson, Kash Joiner; siblings, Jessie Ray Gaines and Alene Key; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other other relatives and friends including, daughter-in-law, Debbie Gaines.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in the Family Room at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with Mr. Portis Ribble officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
