Alton "Curtis" Trowbridge, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 following a short illness.
He was born March 6, 1925 to the late E. E. and Steva Mae Trowbridge. Curtis attended Richland Springs High School and Howard Payne College. Curtis was an ordained minister and served as the Pastor at Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Brownwood during the early fifties and at Sherwood Baptist Church in Sherwood, in the late fifties. In 1953, the family moved to San Angelo where Curtis helped reroof Lake View High School following the tornado. He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co., Sears, Terrell Manufacturing, and San Angelo State School, retiring in 1988.
In 1947, Curtis married Vera Mae Gentry, the love of his life. They spent many years traveling, even taking several mission trips to help in foreign countries. They called Grape Creek home for 53 years and he was a faithful member of Grape Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Curtis is survived by his daughter Carolyn and husband Ray Delone; son Alton and wife Rulea; and son Harlon and wife Danna. He is also survived by his brother L.C. and wife Ruth; brother R.D.; brother E. E. (Bo) and wife Dorothy; sister Dorothy (Dot) Walden; brother Joe and wife Mary; and sister in law Inez Groff. He was called Grandpa by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Vera Mae.
Service is at 2:00 p.m. at Grape Creek Baptist Church, on Saturday October 10, 2015 with Rev. Brad Winchester officiating. Interment will follow in Grape Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
