Lionor "Nora" Velez, 83, of San Angelo, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born to the late, Frank and Ninfa Luna Martinez on Sunday, May 29, 1932 also in San Angelo. She married the love of her life, Juan Velez on September 21, 1947 also in San Angelo. Nora was a member of the Second Baptist Church, San Angelo. She worked over 25 years as a housekeeper with El Patio Hotel. Nora was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was known for her laughter and her cooking talents. It has been said that she never learned to say "no". Nora had a sweet tooth and enjoyed singing hymns in Spanish, although no one ever told her she was out of tune. Nora's family and friends will forever remember her hugs and nicknames she gave. She will be missed greatly. Nora was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Juan Velez, Jr. and Ventura Velez, II.; brothers, Frank, Moses, Cruz, and Joe Martinez; and sisters, Lily Valdez, Rosa Castaneda, and Carolina Cantu.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Juan Velez, Sr.; children and their spouses, Elva Sanchez (Adam), Elsa Martinez (Ruben) of San Antonio, George Velez (Sandra)of Arlington, Elesa Larez (Steve)of Round Rock, Enedina Rivera (Edward) of Haslet, and Ercilia Luna (Juan); daughter-in-law, Laura Velez; 20 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; brothers and their spouses, Noe Martinez (Lucinda) and Samuel Martinez (Elizabeth); numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with visitation to follow. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo.
