Nila Wallace Kitchens, 100, a longtime San Angelo resident, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015, in Brownwood, Texas.
Nila was born March 27, 1915 in Cherokee, San Saba County, Texas to the late Albert and Maudie Hail Wallace. She married Carlton Kitchens in 1934 and had 39 wonderful years together before his death in 1973. She later married William "Buck" Hale in 1977 and had several wonderful years with him before his death.
Nila worked in her earlier years for the US Postal Service and later owned her own Beauty Shop in Miles and San Angelo. Most recently, Nila worked at the Harris Avenue Baptist Church Day Care Center and retired from there after several years. Nila was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; an infant daughter, Ellen Margaret Kitchens and a granddaughter, Rebecca Joy Kitchens; and 3 brothers, Vernon, Robert and Archie Wallace.
She is survived by her son, Bill Kitchens and his wife Glenda of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; grandson, James Kitchens of Los Angeles, California; granddaughters, Jalyn Kitchens Ogle of San Antonio and Holly Kitchens Alexander of Silver City, New Mexico; great grandson, Lane Ogle Stewart; great granddaughters, Faith Leon, Emma Alexander and Rebecca Alexander; and her sisters, Lenora McKenzie and Myrtle King.
Visitation was held Friday evening at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas,
