Mildred Moreland, 98, was called to her eternal home on Thursday, September 10, 2015. She was 98.
She was the youngest of four children, born on October 15, 1916, to Prunella and John F. Towler in Peacock, TX. Her father was a railroad man and he moved his family to Bradley, OK, where she started school. They moved back to Texas and she began attending schools in Ballinger, Wilmeth, and her high school years in San Angelo.
Mildred married William T. (Dub) Moreland on April 1st, 1932, and they made their home in the small town of Wilmeth, TX. They moved to Miles, TX in 1950 where Dub served as the Runnels County Deputy Sheriff, and later as a Tom Green County Deputy.
Mildred always had such a passion for music beginning at an early age. She played the piano and organ for church services, weddings, or anywhere that her talent was needed. She taught music in various towns including Wilmeth, Miles and Morgan, TX, and later taught piano to her 5 grandchildren. On Sunday evenings, her family would gather at her home and most everyone played some type of musical instrument and if they didn't, they sang or danced!
In 1951 she began working at Houston Clary Music store in downtown San Angelo which later became King Music Co. and then eventually Caldwell Music Store. She dedicated 50 years of her life to working and serving others in the music business, and always told her customers "she was a fixture in the store".
Her lists of accomplishments were great and included a lifetime membership of the Women's Society of Christian Service in the Methodist Church, Past Member of the Women's Literacy Club, Charter Member and Honorary Member of San Angelo Music Teacher's Association, Served as Past President in 1966-1967 in the San Angelo Business and Professional Women's Club and received the Woman of the Year Award in 1989. She was also a past docent at Fort Concho, served on the Board of the Tom Green County History Preservation League and was involved in the project to publish the Tom Green County history book.
She was awarded a certificate from the Texas State Historical Commission in 1989 for 29 years of volunteer services as a member of the Tom Green County Historical Commission. This past February, she received a Certificate of Service from Judge Stephen Floyd and the County Commissioners for 46 years of dedication to Tom Green County's rich heritage.
Mildred was dedicated to loving life and her family and friends and always had a big smile for everyone. You could always find her hunting and collecting antiques, feeding her redbirds, taking pictures of anything that caught her eye and watching the Dallas Cowboy games.

Our gracious mother and sweet Mimi wrote the following words:
When I am old, I shall not mind the whiteness of my hair,
Nor that my slow steps falter on the stairs,
Nor that my young friends hurry as they pass,
or what strange image greets me in the glass.
If I can feel like the roots feel in the sod,
that I am growing old to bloom before the
face of God.
