After a brief and brave struggle with cancer, George Shelton won the battle and stepped into eternity in the early hours of the evening August 19, 2015.
George was born on New Year's Eve in 1940 to Wesley and LaVerne Shelton at home "on the farm" in Crews, Texas. He was a country boy at heart until the day he died.
George was a master plumber who owned Shelton Plumbing until his death. He was most at home working, hunting, watching westerns, and sitting on the back porch with Joyce watching the birds and the weather. His greatest joy was time spent with his family.
He was a quiet and humble man who never wanted to be the center of attention. Because of this he didn't want anyone to know he was sick and continued to work through two surgeries, radiation, and chemo.
George leaves behind his wife Joyce; his son Blaine and wife Jenny and their children Grace and Ryder, and daughter Katie Rae; brother Johnny and wife Meriam; son Dane and his children Zach, Landon, Brayden, and Blake, son Dub and wife Debbie, daughter Tammi Peterson and husband Steve and children Amanda, Treat, Cody and Mary; two sisters Glenda Bryan and husband Joe and Dianne Bailey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; a great-grandson and Joyce's family who loved him as one of their own.
In his final years George was blessed with two special relationships in his life: his four legged companion Petey and his employee turned brother Alan Fowler. Both gave him unconditional love and friendship.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dr. Raj Cheraku, Dr. Peter Chang, the wonderful "girls" at the chemo lab, Jay Clatworthy, Hospice of San Angelo, and especially his nurse Miss Pamela and all the family and friends who encouraged and supported us the past 7 months. Thanks for making the journey bearable.
Family visitation is from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21st at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of George's life is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22nd at LifePoint Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Clatworthy officiating. Burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
