Florine H. Strube Gray, 90, of Splendora formerly of Wall, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 17, 2015. Florine was born April 15, 1925, in Olfen, Texas, on the family farm. Her family later moved to Rowena, Texas, and at the age of seven years old she and her family relocated to the family farm in Wall, Texas. Florine attended Wall Schools through the available grades and then commuted into San Angelo graduating from San Angelo High School. She then attended and received her Associate Degree from San Angelo College and started her career in civil service at Mathis Airfield in San Angelo. It was during this time she met and later married the love of her life, Virgil Carl Gray on Sept. 27, 1947. They shared 41 beautiful years of marriage together. Virgil preceded her in death in 1988.
She retired from the civil service after more than 36 years of dedicated service as a retiring as a civilian personnel specialist. Most of all, Florine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and friends. Flo was a strong, fun-loving and loyal woman. She never met a stranger or shied away from a challenge. She loved talking to people, especially her Bunko group and her quilting club and looked forward to meeting with them each month. Florine was a life member of The Catholic Daughters and also a member of the Nation Association of Federal Retired Employees.
The family would like to thank her good friend, Connie Hall, who stayed with her during the days for the past two years. They laughed, shared stories and had a great time. The family would also like to thank the kind caregivers at Total Loving Care Home, who gave her such great care these past two month as well as the nurses and staff of Altus Hospice of Houston.
Florine was preceded in death by her parents, Alphons and Mathilda Strube; four brothers, Otto, Gilbert, Marvin, and A. W.; and four sisters, Olivia, Alice, Valeria and Cordula.She is survived by her loving family, daughter Genese Gray Bell and her husband, David of Splendora, Texas; her three grandchildren, Hayden Bell, Grayson Bell and Erin Bell, all of Splendora, Texas; her brother, Daniel Strube and his wife, Shirlene of Wall, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and close friends.
The rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Texas. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall with Rev. Joseph Chatoupali as celebrant and great-nephew Rev. Todd Gray officiating. Interment will follow in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.Pallbearers for the service will be Hayden Bell, Grayson Bell, Kenny Strube, Kenny Dierschke, Laura Strube, Gail Brown, Betty Jo Wilde and Rev. Todd Gray. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Ambrose Catholic Church Cemetery fund.
