Viewing will be all day Monday, July 13, 2015 with family present from 6 pm to 8 pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Cleta was born on December 26, 1930 in San Angelo, Texas. She was raised by her mother Laverne Smith Jones and her loving and caring step-father Louis Jones (Big Daddy).
Although an only child, she was raised in a large loving family of aunts, uncles and many cousins. Her family was very important to her and she kept up with each of them regularly. Being raised in San Angelo she attended Lake View schools where she graduated in 1948. She was very active in keeping her classmate connected. To this day, those still in San Angelo have lunch together on the first Tuesday of each month at Rio Concho Manor a tradition she started almost 15 years ago.
On June 14, 2003 she married her high school sweetheart Charles Gene Hegwood. They were married 12 years.
Cleta's first job was with the San Angelo Telephone Company, which explains her love for talking on the phone at least 23 hours a day. Some of her other occupational history would include First National Bank of San Angelo, First National Bank of Midland, Rainbow Skating Rink of Midland and the Robert Lee Care Center. During her tenure at the Robert Lee Care Center she was the 911 operator. She received the State award for being the 911 Operator of the Year.
Cleta was preceded in death by her parents Louis Jones & Laverne Jones Smith, grandparents B.E. and Maude Tumlinson, numerous aunts and uncles; and one great-grand daughter McKenzie Holcroft.
