Hilda Marie Raney, 87, was called home Wednesday July 1, 2015 in Robert Lee, TX after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.
Marie was born on February 2, 1928 in Waco, TX to Jasper and Opha Willis. Similar to numerous other SE Texas families, she was raised the daughter of a share cropper through the middle of the great depression who readily communicated the good ole days weren’t as good as everyone makes them sound.
In simile to numerous other young women of her time, marriage finally drew her from the cotton fields of Limestone County and into various stents of relocation; ultimately leading to a fulfilling 30+ year career as a Food Service Manager for various nursing facilities in and around Ector County, concluding in retirement with her late husband Gerrell Raney in Robert Lee, TX in 1997.
But, a fulfilling career was the least of her accomplishments. Marie was responsible for raising three generations of children, primarily alone, from the early 50’s through 2005 and will be survived by five immediate children, greater than twenty-six grandchildren, greater than nineteen great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday afternoon July 2nd, 2015 from 3-7 pm with family present from 5-7 to receive visitors at Shaffer Funeral Home in Robert Lee, TX. Graveside services will be held at 2:00p.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 in Robert Lee Cemetery with Reverend Danny White of Robert Lee Baptist Church officiating. All community members are encouraged to attend. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
