Jean Owens (Jeanie) Deans, 88, passed from this life on Friday, June 12, 2015 in Abilene, Texas. Jeanie was born in San Angelo, Texas on February 11, 1927 to J.A.(Gus) and Ruby Warden Owens. She grew up and attended schools in San Angelo, graduating in 1944. She was the youngest of six children. She worked as an operator with the General Telephone Company, where she met the love of her life, David Carl Deans. She and Carl married on August 31,1947. They honeymooned in Ruidoso, New Mexico where they began a lifelong love for the area. They spent many summers there and eventually bought their own cabin. They also enjoyed camping in their 5th wheel. They had three children Susan, Tommy and Nancy. Jeanie was a stay at home Mom for many years and was very involved in her children's lives. She was always a home room mother, helped with PTA, school parties and events, was a den mother and brownie leader. She was an excellent seamstress, making a lot of her girls clothes and costumes. She was also a wonderful cook, baker and did home canning, much to the joy of her friends and family. When the children were older, she went back to work for General Telephone Company and retired after 25 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed spoiling her 9 grandchildren, who loved her dearly. After Carl's death in 2008, Jeanie moved to Christian Village in Abilene. Jeanie was a faithful Christian and charter member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. For many years she was a teacher for World Bible Study and children's Bible classes. She spent countless hours in prayer for those she loved and cared about. She was an amazing woman, known for her sweet, kind, and loving personality and will be missed by all who knew her. Jeanie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl; her parents; her siblings, J.A. Owens, Warden Owens, Mozelle Smith, Inelle Colby and Tobby Owens and her grandson, Jacob Hunt.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Barber of Abilene, son, Tom Deans and wife, Amy of Sachse, and daughter, Nancy Brooks and husband, Shorty of Tye; grandchildren, Jason Barber and wife, Tammy, Kerri Cannon and husband, Jason, Melissa Fitzgerald and husband, Clayton, Joshua Hunt, Jenny Gibson and husband, Michael, Jeb Hunt and wife, Casi, Nicole Deans and Christopher Deans; and greatgrandchildren, Jacob, Austin, William, Kylee, Jillian, Hunter, Riley,
Cassie, Raigen and Kinlee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, June 15, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel of San Angelo with Mr. Tommy King officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens of San Angelo. Jason Barber, Josh Hunt, Jeb Hunt, Jason Cannon, Clayton Fitzgerald, Michael Gibson, Jacob Barber, and Austin Barber will serve as pallbearers.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation at www.alzfdn.org , any hospice organization or the charity of the giver's choice.
