Robert Earl Hayden, 93, of San Angelo, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late, Maurice and Beatrice Smith Hayden on Sunday, January 15, 1922 in Beach Grove, Kentucky . He married the love of his life, Elnora C. Hoelscher on December 25, 1941 in Wall, Texas. The couple was one of the first settlers in the St. Lawrence community where they raised their family. After moving to San Angelo, the couple attended mass each day together. After her passing in 1977, he continued this tradition until which time he was no longer physically able. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and active with the 50 Plus Group. Mr. Hayden served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He worked as a cotton farmer in St. Lawrence for many years, before retiring. Mr. Hayden was a man of congenial nature with a positive outlook and subtle sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son in law, Ronnie Bubenik; daughter in law, Roxene Hayden; siblings, Bill Hayden, Dennis Hayden, Rita Thompson, and Alvin Hayden.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 1, 2015 in the Holy Angels Catholic Church with John Deniz serving as celebrant. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow with Fr. Charles Greenwell serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of San Angelo (HOSA) at 36 E. Twohig Avenue #1100, San Angelo, Texas 76903 or Meals for the Elderly at 310 E. Houston Harte, San Angelo, Texas 76903. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Shirley Turner (Layne), Gloria Bubenik, Will Lasa (Corina), Floyd Hayden (Paula), Judy Hartman (Jim), Charles Hayden (Sharon), and Kay Browning (Harold); 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frances Hayden and Dolores Hayden; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
