Dorothy Lee Carter Howard was born October 27, 1924, and passed from this life to the next on May 12, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born in Blair, Oklahoma to Charles and Leora Carter. Dorothy graduated from Blair High School and attended Oklahoma City University to pursue her love of music. She graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in piano.
Dorothy married H. D. (Dick) Howard in 1947. They began their married life in Dallas, Texas, where Dick attended SMU Law School and Dorothy taught elementary school. After Dick's graduation in 1950, Dick and Dorothy moved to San Angelo where they raised their family and became an integral part of the city.
Dorothy enjoyed sharing her musical talent with others. For over twenty-five years she taught piano lessons to her much loved students. She served as organist of First United Methodist Church in San Angelo for fifteen years. Dorothy also delighted in playing the piano and the accordion for community events.
In addition to being a member of First Methodist Church, Dorothy was active in Junior League, San Angelo Symphony Guild, Shannon Hospital Auxiliary and PEO. Most of all, Dorothy cherished time with her family, her many close friends and her beloved pets.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Owene Carter English; her brother Robert Carter and her husband Dick. She is survived by her daughter Susan Denzer (husband Greg) of Richardson, TX; her son James Howard (wife Marcia) of Dallas; grandsons Jordan Denzer and Blake Denzer (wife Rachelle); great-grandson Jack Denzer; and cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of San Angelo.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Dorothy may be made to First United Methodist Church of San Angelo Organ Maintenance Fund or to the San Angelo Symphony.
