On April 29th, 2015, Dorothy Lee Chandler Hirata went to be with our Lord in heaven. She was 86 years old. Funeral service to remember Dorothy and her fulfilling life will be at 10:00a.m.,Tuesday May 5, 2015 at Grape Creek Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.
Born the middle child of three to W. E Chandler and Zola Mae Ingram she joined her parents, her brother, and many other family members in God's heavenly kingdom.
Dorothy lived a life of joy and countless adventures and travels with her husband and love of her life, Herb. When she was not off on adventure, she was a bookkeeper, church secretary, teacher, puppeteer, domestic diva, best friend and confidante to many. She looked at life with humor and believed always that no matter what came she could turn to the Lord for help and guidance. She proclaimed her faith not from a hill, but from the quiet depths of her soul and by doing the work that needed to be done. She believed that faith as a mustard seed could move mountains, and her family is sure that she and the Lord did move a few mountains quietly in her time here on earth.
She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Lt. Colonel Herbert T. Hirata(Ret. USAF), her sister, Alta Holt, her children; daughter Pam and Donald Kruse, son Bill and Beatriz Hawkes, son Ron and Dorothy Hawkes, daughter Terri Hirata, Sister-in-law Elaine and George Harai, 12 grandchildren and countless great grandchildren, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
