L. Lynn Stokes, Jr., 60, passed away February 28, 2015 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born October 12, 1954 in San Angelo, Texas to L. L. "Boone" and Joyce N. Stokes of Big Lake, Texas.
He is survived by his parents; sister, Lynda Johnson and husband Duane; brother, Tom Stokes; sister-in-law, Donna Stokes; and nieces, Shelby Bynum and husband, Cole, and Kelsey Stokes.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John F. Nunn, Elizabeth Nunn Chriesman and Earl H. Chriesman, formerly of Big Lake, and Altus T. and Corinne Wood Stokes, formerly of Ballinger, Texas.
Lynn attended the New Mexico State School for the Visually Handicapped in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Paul Henry Elementary School in Las Vegas, New Mexico, John Ireland Elementary School in Odessa Texas, and Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center in Austin, TX. He was a resident of Lubbock State Supported Living Center. Recently, he was proud to receive an award for 40 years of outstanding service in the center's Vocational Program.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo, with Rev. John Sanders and Rev. John Sparks officiating. Following the service, interment will be at Old Runnels Cemetery, north of Ballinger. The family would love to greet friends and relatives from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cole Bynum, W. E. "Snub" Liles, Mike McQueen, L. L. "Bud" Farr IV, Bill Clark, Jimmy Matthews, and Casey Baize.
Because Lynn attended several sessions at Texas Lions Camp and had fond memories of his experiences there, the family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Texas Lion's Camp, P. O. Box 290247, Kerrville, TX 78029-0247, or to charity of your choice.
