John Harry "Terry" Nelms, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2015 in San Angelo. Terry was born in 1930 in Sweetwater Texas to Cecil and Helen Erie Nelms. After High School , he served his country honorably in the United States Army in the Atomic Testing Program. Terry was very proud to be a member of the "Atomic Veterans." During his military duties he met and later married the love of his life Reba Jo Cantrell on September 9, 1951 and they were blessed with 57 years together. They settled in San Angelo and Terry worked for GTE as an engineer for over 40 years and retired from there. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who devoted his life to his family, especially his grandchildren who he cherished and loved spending time with. Aside from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren he loved to stay busy by working with his hands and numerous gadgets, he enjoyed building model airplanes; he also loved staying up with current events and watching Fox News. Terry was never idle for any reason and stayed incredibly organized. Everything had its time and place. However his love for his family was his greatest passion. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Reba Jo and one son Gary Lee Nelms. He is survived by his children, Brenda Kay Drgac and her husband Larry, Johnny Joe Nelms, and Mickey Wayne Nelms and his wife Mary Lynn, all of San Angelo; numerous Grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and one sister, Mary Nichols, of Early, Texas. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Chinn and Dr. Cheruku, the staff at Gentiva Hospice, and the staff at Shannon Medical Center Oncology Department for all of the loving care given to Terry. Donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice, the West Texas Boys Ranch or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 PM Friday at Johnson's Funeral Home. The Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, Janaury 17, 2015 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, Texas.
