Julio T. Garcia, age 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and great grandfather entered into eternal rest on December 28, 2014 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Julio was born in Crystal City, TX on November 21, 1930 to parents Nieves and Martin Garcia. Julio married the love of his life, Lilia, on February 27, 1954.
A pillar of the community and longtime citizen of Del Rio many regarded Julio as a highly respected son of the city. Julio was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church but gained popularity when he worked at the Branding Iron Steak House. Following his long tenure as head chef, he founded Julio’s Corn Chips and Seasoning, Inc., a business that garnered recognition across the world under the auspices of his sons Miguel, Jose, Pedro and Julio Garcia, Jr.
Julio is preceded in death by his parents Nieves and Martin, his brother Jose and sister Dolores Martinez and grandson Mark Garcia. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lilia J. Garcia, his children, Guadalupe Saucedo and husband Rey Saucedo of Del Rio, TX, Martin and his wife Gloria Garcia of Del Rio, TX, Oralia Uriegas and husband Israel Uriegas of San Antonio, TX, Dr. Enedina Vazquez and husband Dr. Luis Vazquez of Las Cruces, NM, Julio Garcia, Jr. of Del Rio, TX, Maria Lilia (Mica) Garcia of Del Rio, TX, Jose Angel Garcia and his wife Brenda of San Angelo, TX, Miguel Angel Garcia and his wife Angie Garcia, Maria Laura Garcia, Pedro Garcia and Carolina Martinez of Del Rio, TX, and long-time cherished family friend, Anna De La Rosa, from Del Rio, TX.
Julio is also survived by 17 grandchildren Sandra Saucedo, Rey Saucedo Jr., Maria Smith, Jose Martin Saucedo, Bernarda Naya Pacheco, Martin Garcia, Jr., Israel Uriegas, Jr., Maria Uriegas, Luis Vazquez, II, Amado Vazquez, Vanessa Garcia Goodman, Jose Garcia, II, Adriana Garcia, Leeanna Garcia, Julian Garcia, Nereida Findley, Miguel Angel Garcia, II, Savanah Rivera and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers include Martin Garcia, Julio Garcia, Jr., Jose Garcia, Miguel Garcia, Pedro Garcia and Luis Vazquez.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary 7:00pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 9:30 a.m., St Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Del Rio.
