Wesley Jennings passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2014 at the age of 98. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tommy King officiating.
Wesley Jennings was born Feb. 3, 1916 in Coleman County to Benjamin Franklin Jennings and Nora Bell Messer. He moved to San Angelo from Christoval in 1929. He married Ruby Deans, his wife of 70 years, on May 3, 1942. During WWII he trained as a welder in Houston. He was injured and sent home during the war. He owned and operated a garage for 20 years on North Chadbourne. They loved to travel in their RV. He was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.
Wesley loved basketball and track in high school. In 2010, he was inducted into the "Lake View Hall of Fame" for 1st Place High Jumping in 1934. That was the highlight of his life. He talked about it often and wore his medals for weeks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Deans Jennings; sister, Ruby Takemire; nephew Wendell Harrison; three brothers, Wilburn Jennings, Ernest Jennings, and Leon Jennings; as well as both of his parents. Survivors include his daughter Carlene Jennings Grimes and husband Steve of San Angelo; two grandsons, Coy Baldwin and wife Regina of San Angelo and Brad Baldwin and wife Amy of Hudson, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Lindsay Oakley, Sara Baldwin, Anna Baldwin, Grace Baldwin, and Benjamin Baldwin; and two great-great grandchildren.
