Martha Jane Womack Simpson, 91, of San Angelo, passed away Thursday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2014, at her home. Visitation with family and friends will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Ben Herbert officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo. Jane was born on July 14, 1923, to Dr. Clifford T. Womack and Agnes West Womack in San Angelo, Texas. She attended San Angelo schools, graduated from San Angelo High School in 1940, and attended San Angelo Junior College for two years. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1944. She was active in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Jane married Capt. Charles E. Simpson, Army Air Corps pilot, on Feb. 16, 1945. She was active as an Air Force wife and mother in PTA, Cub and Girl Scouts, Officers' Wives Club and Toastmasters. She enjoyed singing in the First Christian Church choir in Altus, Oklahoma. She made many friends during her husband's Air Force career. She enjoyed sewing for her children and granddaughter and sewing doll clothes for her granddaughter's Cabbage Patch dolls and costumes for the Officers Wives Club skits. Following her husband's retirement from the Air Force, she worked as an office manager for a rental housing company in Sacramento, California. Later, she returned to San Angelo with her husband, Charles, to take up ranching in Schleicher County, farming in Howard County, enjoying monthly lunches with "the girls" and traveling to renew lifelong friendships. She and Charles attended the 71st Fighter Squadron with the 1st Fighter Group military reunions across the country. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 58 years. She is survived by her son, Thomas C. Simpson and wife Cheryl of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters Nancy J. Simpson Sardon and husband Rick of Sacramento, California, and Susan A. Simpson Kuzma and husband Ben of Boise, Idaho; four grandson, Blaine C. Simpson and wife LeAnne, Anthony J. Sardon, 2nd Lt. USAF Christopher J. Sardon and wife Heidi and Max A. Kuzma; granddaughter Sarah M. Simpson Cascio and husband John; great-grandsons Hunter C. Simpson and Kyle R. Sardon; great-granddaughter Katelyn A. Simpson; and one great-granddaughter due next year to Sarah and John. She is also survived by her two brothers, Dr. James C. Womack and Dr. William T. Womack and wife Nancy Ann; along with numerous nephews and nieces. The pallbearers will be Tom Simpson, Blaine Simpson, Anthony Sardon, Christopher Sardon, John Cascio, Chris Womack and Jimmy Womack. Special thanks for the many years of loving care provided by Lucy Castillo, Rosa Medders, Julia Rodriquez, Joan Buskirk and Chris Ornelas.
