Socorro Ramirez Celaya went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Socorro was born on May 3, 1937, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Bernabe and Candida Sosa Ramirez. She married Gonzalo Celaya of Fort Stockton in January 1953, and they shared 47 loving years together before he preceded her in death in March 2000. She grew up and worked in Fort Stockton for the school district and in 1993, retired to San Angelo. Socorro was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved gardening and cooking. Her passion was her family and making sure that her door was always open to everyone. She was "Grandma" or "G.G." to everyone but especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved beyond means. She was always known for her cookies and coffee and sneaking them to her great-grandchildren. Socorro devoted her life to her family and friends and loved being there for everyone. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and her love will live on in our hearts forever. Socorro was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother Ike Ramirez. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Monreal and husband Pedro of San Angelo; her son, Nick Celaya and wife Jane of Victoria; her grandchildren, Justin Saenz and his wife, Valerie, Janiffer Shifflett and husband Rodney, all of San Angelo, Jessica Celaya of Victoria, Jennica Saenz of Waxahachie, Jillian Celaya of Victoria, Oralia Mesa and husband Reynaldo of Fort Stockton, Gabriel Mesa of San Angelo, Matthew Mesa of Fort Stockton, Kathy Morales of Justin, Ronnie Mesa of San Angelo and Ray Mesa of Fort Stockton; her great-grandchildren, Allysa and Daylon Saenz of San Angelo, Arianna and Annabelle Costilla of Victoria, Isabella Morales of Waxachachie and Bayleigh Shifflett of San Angelo; her sisters, Susanna Blanco and Senaida Scott and her husband, Jimmy, of Fort Stockton; her brothers, Ricardo Ramirez and his wife, Minnie, of Lubbock and Reyes Ramirez of Fort Stockton. Pallbearers for the service will be Gabriel Mesa, Ronnie Mesa, Mikey Mesa, Matthew Mesa, Shawn Michael Scott, Oscar Dominguez and Ray Mesa. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Deacon James Allen Scott and Father Joey Faylona as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
