Luis Garza Navarro, 83, of San Angelo, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Nursing Facility, surrounded by family and friends. Luis was born on October 11, 1930 in Tankersley, Texas, the son of late Camila and Ventura Navarro.
Luis married Martha Torres in April of 1948 in San Angelo, Texas. Luis worked in the ranching industry shearing sheep all of his life. Sheep shearing was his passion. He loved this job and he had a gift for doing it. Luis also worked at The Hatatorium as a hat maker for 27 years. He took this job very seriously and he created each hat specific to the needs of each customer. Even though he worked at The Hatatorium he always worked shearing sheep during the season.
Luis is survived by his children Alice Torres (Mike), Ricardo Navarro, Steve Navarro (Irene), Noelia Contreras, Haida Ramirez, Manuel Navarro, Samuel Navarro, Bernice Fernandez and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, an infant daughter, Adelmira, and Ovelia Cardenas, and several siblings. Pall bearers will be Rudy Ramirez Jr., Jesse Fernandez Jr., Jacob Fernandez, David Losoya, Jason Torres and Manuel Navarro Jr. Honorary pall bearers are Ryan Ruiz, Misael Torres, Gary Busker, Isaiah Torres and Robert Machuca.
Luis was a member of New Mount of Olives Assembly of God church.
Viewing of the body will be Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 1:00 to 9:00 PM at Gutierrez Funeral Chapel, 1002 North Oakes, San Angelo. A service in celebration of Luis’ life will be held at Gutierrez Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 7:00 PM. A service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at New Mount of Olives, 1108 Shiloh, San Angelo. Officiating at the service will be Interim Pastor, Elisabet Geair. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. 2 Corinthians 5:8: We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
