John March Doss passed away peacefully on April 16, 2014 with his loving wife, Cindy, at his side. Failing health was complicated by Acute Leukemia.
Mr. Doss was predeceased by his parents, John William and Theresa March Doss. His grandparents were Henry and Ola Doss of Colorado City, and N. Murph March and Fanny Pulliam March of San Angelo. He was the great-grandson of Monroe B. Pulliam, a Tom Green County ranching pioneer, whose legacy provided his heirs with their vocations. John March ranched his portion of the Pulliam Ranch northwest of San Angelo since 1972. He farmed and ranched another property near Millersview in Concho County from 1959 to 1999. While living at that ranch, he served on the Millersview School Board, Concho County Hospital District, and the Farmers Home Administration Board.
He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers, and the Southwest Texas Cattle Raisers Association.
He graduated from Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas in 1957, and attended Angelo State University and Texas Tech University. While serving in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1965, his unit was activated as a result of the Berlin Crisis.
He is survived by his wife Cindy Wilson Doss; daughters Katherine Doss and her son Ethan DePoister of Austin and Victoria Hernandez of San Angelo; son Robert Walker, Jr. (Jill) and their children Kyla and Colton; and sister Tita McCarty (Dan) of Aspen, Colorado. He is also survived by first cousins Murph March Compton (Lila) of Menard and San Angelo, Kay Doss and her brother, Dick Doss (Marsha) of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Martin Martinez for his many years as a loyal Pulliam Ranch employee and a valued friend.
During John's illness, the family and lifelong friends did not miss a day without a call or a visit. You kept him strong.
John raised his girls with unconditional love and the best of his ability as a father. He was a proud and loving Paw Paw.
John, my Husband, my Love and my Rock, our time together became too short. The love we shared was strong and enduring. This will last forever in my heart. I love you.
A grateful thank you to Hospice and Rotary House of Hope.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at Fairmount Cemetery with Rev. Matt Rowe of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
