Shirley Marie McKay, 87, of San Angelo went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. The Family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M., - 6:00 P.M., Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 17, 2014 at Southland Baptist Church with Pastor Taylor Sandlin officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Shirley was born to Frank and Nellie Lossing on October 29, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents, older sister, Marjorie Mellas, older brother, Bud Lossing, and two infants, Leslie Allen and Sandra Lee. She is survived by her husband Murray "Monk" McKay and her younger sister Lois Jones. On June 22, 1946, after a month of courtship, Shirley married Monk, the love of her life. They spent 67 happy years together, and the fruit of that love was evident with 3 children and spouses, Ronnie McKay and wife Linda, of Katy, TX, Barbara Wood and husband Robert, of Georgetown, TX and Linda Strickland and husband Barney, of Lampasas, TX, 8 grandchildren and spouses, Landon Wood and wife Meggan, Amber Ross and husband Jeremy, Brittany Erbaugh and husband Matt, Justin Strickland and wife Amanda, Keith Strickland and wife Amy, Rick McKay, John McKay and wife Deni and Lisa McKay, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, niece Kate McKay and nephew Homer Mellas, both of whom she graciously took under her wings as her own. She is also survived by other special nieces and nephews. Shirley was a member of the San Angelo Community Hospital Auxiliary and took an active role in volunteering for the community with Meals for the Elderly and numerous other organizations. Her favorite past times were playing games such as Dominos, Bridge, UNO, and most of all Wahoo with family and friends. She loved flowers, hummingbirds, and receiving pictures of her grandchildren. Shirley was known for her blue eyes and silvery white hair loved most by her beloved husband. She loved to talk, share stories, and was always ready for a good laugh. Shirley will be dearly missed by all who knew her but will live on in our hearts forever! Pallbearers for the service will be her grandsons Rick McKay, John McKay, Landon Wood, Justin Strickland, Keith Strickland, Jeremy Ross and Matt Erbaugh. Donations may be made to Meals for the Elderly or Southland Baptist Church.
