Augusta, GA – CPT Winkler Bernard Fuchs U.S. Army (Ret), 89, husband of Minnie Lee Fuchs entered into rest Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Charlie Norwood VA Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held in San Angelo, TX on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 2:00 P.M., in the chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home with Deacon Stanley Lange of St. Thomas Catholic Church presiding. Burial will be at Harriett Community Cemetery on FM 1692 near Miles, TX immediately following the service.
Winkler was born in Rosebud, TX to the late Alois and Cidonia Kuhn Fuchs. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, serving in numerous roles including medic, mortuary officer, paratrooper and Special Forces. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of Central Church of Christ in Martinez, GA.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Elizabeth Ann Fuchs. Survivors include his children, Cherie Fuchs McElligott of Vienna, VA, Winklyn Hayes and Merl Fuchs both of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Kelly McElligott, Sean McElligott, Casey McElligott, Brian Hayes, Timothy Hayes, Megan Adams, Gregory Fuchs, Eric Fuchs and Nikolas Fuchs; great grandchildren Aiden Kidd, Amelia Adams, Aiden Hayes and Kaylinn McElligott and step-granddaughter, Cathy Collins, and her children, Michael, Cody, and Meghan Collins.
