Donald Nystedt, former Cherokee resident, passed away at age 88, in San Angelo, Texas on January 6, 2014. Donald was born in 1925 on his family's farm near Larrabee.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during WW2, he and his wife Alta moved to Cherokee, where they owned and operated Nystedt's Piano House for many years. During that time Don and Alta developed many lifetime friendships, were involved with many community affairs, and were continuously active members of St. Paul's Methodist Church. In 1970, they moved themselves and their business to College Station, Texas, but maintained long-term friendships with many Cherokee area residents. Donald was a Master Piano Craftsman, and by the time he retired in 1988, he had tuned, repaired, and restored thousands of pianos.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alta; daughter Cynthia Poulson of San Angelo and son Marc (and wife Diana) of Helotes, TX; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Shirleen (and husband Milt) Madden of Eugene, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
