Howard Lee "Barney" Munson, 88 of San Angelo passed from this earthly world on December 5, 2013 to be with his heavenly father. 

Barney was born on March 19, 1925 in Yale Oklahoma to Ruth Ellen Allison and Joseph Coy Munson. He was drafted into WWII on July 19, 1943. He was a Navy corpsman serving in the South Pacific until his discharge with full military honors including a purple heart on February 26, 1946.

Barney met the love of his life Theola Faye Reuter as young teenager in 1939. After military service they were married January 15, 1946 in Yale Oklahoma. They were together over 68 years. Barney went to work for Sun Oil Co. He worked for Sun Oil over 42 years. They lived in New Orleans, La; Sunfield Oil Camp, Delmeta, Tx, Premont, Midland and San Angelo, Texas.

Barney retired in 1984. He was a member of Good Sam Club and toured by motor home all over the United States. He was a fisherman, hunter, camper and book lover. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, achieving the rank of 32nd degree Mason.

Barney was a life-long Baptist, most recently a member of the Southland Baptist Church of San Angelo. He was especially proud to be a part of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Barney is survived by his wife Theola, sister Bonnie Pence, daughter Susan Jones, her husband Richard, son Kyle Munson and wife Kym. Grandchildren: Christopher Riley and his fiance Jessica, Megan McCarthy and her husband Michael, Samantha Munson, Brendan Munson, Colby Jones, and Andy Jones; two great grandchildren, nieces Sherry Furr, Gaye Parker, nephews Jim Pence and Gary Martz, and cousins . Barney also leaves behind literally hundreds of friends and acquaintances. He never met a stranger. He was the calm in the storm for his family. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Services are planned for a viewing at Johnson's Funeral Home on Monday, Dec 9 from 4-6 pm. Services will be held at Southland Baptist Church on Tuesday, Dec 10 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 'Water for All' program thru Southland Baptist Church.
