After a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson’s, Jack Meek passed away on November 28, 2013. He was born on December 3, 1942. His parent’s were Jack and Margaret Meek both of whom preceded him in death. Jack graduated from Lakeview High School in 1961 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1967 with a degree in architecture.
Jack loved to design. His beautiful and creative architectural works can be found throughout Central and West Texas and include many private homes, commercial buildings, churches and restored historic courthouses and libraries. A number of Jack’s designs have been recognized with awards from the Texas Society of Architects. He remained an Emeritus member of the American Institutes of Architects until his death. Throughout his battle with Parkinson’s, Jack worked with students on creative projects and donated his time and creativity to nonprofit organizations and community projects.
Jack is survived by his daughter Schuyler Cunningham and husband, Ken of White Oak, TX (near Longview); two grandchildren, Kailey Heather Cunningham and Rondy “Bryce” Cunningham. He is also survived by his brother Bobby Meek and wife, Alva Jean of San Angelo and their children Kevin Meek, Keith Meek and Vanessa Constanio. Jack was preceded in death by his other daughter Heather Meek who died in a car accident in 1989.
Jack had many friends who stood with him through a more than 20 year battle with Parkinson’s. Among these were close friend Ben Sum Yong, whom could never be thanked enough for all that he has done for Jack. Ben and his wife, Cycris, truly enriched his life because he loved being around creative people. Two his closest lifelong friends were Marilyn Hartman and Linda Shoemaker, who were like sisters he never had. Jack was also blessed to have a brother like Bobby who was always there for Jack and Schuyler.
Jack was an active member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church. Missionary and Reverend Jim Havlik and Reverend Craig Meyers will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate memorials to the Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte, San Angelo, TX 76903.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:00pm on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Belvedere Memorial Park located on Arden Road under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Jack will be buried beside his daughter, Heather, for eternal peace with the greatest of all Creators, our Heavenly Father.
