Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested, Victim ID'd

A suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a 23-year-old dead this morning has been apprehended by detectives with the San Angelo Police Department.

The 20-year-old suspect, whose name is not being released due to an ongoing investigation, turned himself over peacefully after officers knocked on the door of an apartment at the Emerald Point complex in the 3400 block of Arden Road, Sgt. Cade Solsbery said.

The exact time of the fatal crash has not yet been determined, however Solsbery indicated that it happened in the night on the access road in the 4500 block of Houston Harte, near Cavender’s.

Police responded to a non-emergency call on Tuesday morning at circa 7 a.m., when a body was reported to be lying off the access road. Upon arrival, officers located the woman, who appeared to have been the victim of a crash. Justice of the Peace McGuire pronounced her dead at the scene.

Solsbery relayed that the suspect’s vehicle, a gold Toyota Camry, was located at roughly 1:30 p.m. by Officer Mike Gesch, after receiving an anonymous tip. Detectives, crime scene technicians and officers swarmed the complex parking lot Tuesday afternoon, escorting out the male suspect in jeans and a grey shirt at approximately 2 p.m.

The victim of the crash has been identified as 23-year-old Gisele Jarmon. Solsbery said there was no relation between the suspect and victim. Jarmon had been reported missing by her mother this morning.

Solsbery said the suspect will be interviewed and the vehicle is being seized for investigation. He indicated that the car did show damage consistent with the injuries and type of crash that occurred.

The suspect could face a felony fail to stop and render aid charge, however others are also possible. Charges are pending investigation, Solsbery said.

Jarmon’s body will be sent off for autopsy.
