ABILENE, TX — Dyess Air Force Base (AFB) announced that one of the airman assigned to the base died while off-duty over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Dyess AFB public affairs said the airman died in a car crash outside of the Abilene area on Sunday.
“Any time we lose a member of our Air Force family, it’s a terrible tragedy,” said Col. Seth Spanier, 7th Bomb Wing commander, in the release. “Our top priority is to support the grieving family, friends, and loved ones struggling with this loss.”
The identity and rank of the airman has not been released by Dyess AFB as of the date of the publication of this article.
Dyess AFB is home to the Global Strike Command's 7th Bomb Wing that operates the B-1B Lancer bomber. Also Air Mobility Command's 317th Airlift Wing that operates the C-130 is based there. Dyess AFB also has six tenant units.
