An Abilene Teen Stands Trial This Week For Killing a Man Who Refused to Buy Him Alcohol

ABILENE, Texas- On Halloween night in 2014, an 18-year-old Abilene man was accused of running over a man and killing him for refusing to buy the minor alcohol. Today, the trial began in that case.

Emmanuel Diaz will soon learn his fate for killing 58-year-old Jesse Cortinez. The incident took place outside of a convenience store on Butternut St., and a witness told officials Diaz did indeed run over Cortinez, said a local new source.

Local news sources in the area stated, “According to court documents, Diaz approached Cortinez and asked him to buy alcohol for him and a friend. When Cortinez refused, Diaz allegedly hit him with his mother's jeep before fleeing the scene.”

Almost a month later, Diaz was arrested in late November and has been held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds that total $250,000.
