WALL, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks faced the Merkel Lady Badgers in a game that would decide both team's playoff fates on Tuesday, April 16. It took some late-game heroics from the Lady Hawks in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the contest. After 11 innings, Wall prevailed with a walk-off hit from Shyanne Floyd to secure victory and a spot in the playoffs, 3-2.

Merkel struck first early in the ballgame and led 2-0. Wall put the ball into play relatively well throughout but struggled to move the ladies around the bases when needed. In several instances, two or even three Lady Hawks were left stranded on base at the end of the inning.
That all changed in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the game on the line, Wall loaded the bases. An RBI Double scored two to tie the game, and the Lady Hawks had a chance to end it there. Jordan Chitsey nearly delivered, but a force out at 1st base came in for the third out before Chitsey could cross home plate. Wall and Merkel headed to extra innings.

The defensive battle continued with neither team giving any ground in the 8th, 9th, and 10th innings. Wall held again in the 11th to send the Lady Hawks to the dugout with another opportunity to win this close fight. Shyanne Floyd hit a line drive to right-center with two outs and a runner on second. Jade Harper showed off her wheels as she scored from second base to walk off the Lady Badgers, 3-2.
The Lady Hawks secured a playoff spot with the win and now await the results from Jim Ned to determine whether or not they will have the 3rd or 4th seed heading into the 2024 playoffs.
