Cowboys Running Back Signs with the Tennessee

NASHVILLE, TN—The Tony Pollard era in Dallas is over. After five seasons in which Pollard compiled 4,940 yards and 28 touchdowns, the former Cowboys’ running back will join the Tennessee Titans. According to KPRC2 Houston’s NFL insider Aaron Wilson and ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Titans are expected to sign Pollard to a three-year, $24 million deal.

Pollard replaced former running back Ezekiel Elliott as the Cowboys’ feature back last season. While he was productive, with 252 carries for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns, Pollard did not meet the expectations of a feature back. His yards per carry dropped from 5.2 yards to 4.0 from 2022 to 2023, and he scored three fewer touchdowns in 2023.

The Cowboys finished last season with a 12-5 overall record and were champions in the NFC East before Dallas fell to the Green Bay Packers in an embarrassing 48-32 loss at home in the Wild Card Round. Pollard managed 57 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in that contest.

Dallas chose not to place the franchise tag on Pollard earlier this year, which ensured that the running back would hit free agency. The Titans came calling, and now Pollard joins forces with second-year running back Tyjae Spears in Nashville.

Tennessee was looking for a new running back after recent events, which made it clear that neither the Titans nor Tennessee’s feature back for the last eight seasons, Derrick Henry, had intentions to move forward together. Henry still does not have a team so far at the start of free agency, but he is a target the Cowboys may look to sign moving forward.

Dallas currently only has Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn under contract. Neither saw much of the field last season. With Pollard gone and Rico Dowdle also in free agency, it is unclear where the Cowboys will fill these roster positions for next season.
