Garden City Downs Menard to Claim Bi-District Championship

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The High School Basketball playoffs tipped off on Monday night, February 19, and the 1A Menard Yellowjackets and Garden City Bearkats battled it out in Round 1 at Lake View High School in San Angelo. A tough battle ensued, with the Bearkats emerging victorious as Bi-District Champions 59-41.

Both teams played each other close in the first quarter, with neither giving up too much ground. Garden City held a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bearkats exploded in the second with 18 points. Menard couldn’t match that same intensity and trailed 28-16 at the half.

The Yellowjackets played better on offense in the third quarter, but Garden City performed even better. Menard never managed to claw their way back into the ball game, and the Bearkats claimed victory, 59-41.

Garden City’s Jarrett Fryar led the Bearkats with 21 points. Kade Rayburn led the Yellowjackets with 16 points, including four three-point shots.

Garden City will play the winner of Iraan and Sierra Blanca in the Area Round.
