MERKEL, TX — After a loss last weekend in Coahoma, the TLCA Eagles needed a bounce-back win to get their district season back on track against the Merkel Badgers in Merkel on Tuesday night. Senior guard Luis Casillas answered that call with one of the best, if not THE best, performances in his high school career.

Casillas dropped 48 points in a dominant performance to lead the Eagles to a 91-61 victory over the Badgers. His performance included seven three-pointers. Drew Sherrill scored 15 points, and A-Jay Romero scored 14.
TLCA came out of the gates hot after only scoring 44 points in the loss against Coahoma. The Eagles led 24-13 at the end of the 1st quarter and only increased their lead afterward. Casillas played his best quarter in the ball game next when he dropped 17 points in the 2nd. TLCA led 50-26 at the half.

The Eagles continued to pour it on in the second half behind 20 additional points from Casillas. TLCA finished their road trip with a 91-61 victory. The Eagles return home on Friday, January 17, to host their rivals, the Wall Hawks. Wall took control of the district when the Eagles lost to Coahoma last weekend, so this matchup will be pivotal for TLCA if they want to reenter the District Championship race.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday in San Angelo.
