Central Bobcat Makes State Tournament in Golf

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats Golf team competed in the Region 1-6A Golf Championships at the Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie on Wednesday and Thursday, April 19-20. The Bobcats competed against more than 15 other schools for a shot to qualify for the State Championships.

The ‘Cats played well, fought hard throughout the tournament, and finished 7th overall. Unfortunately for the ‘Cats, 7th place was not quite good enough to get them through to the next round, but they still finished in the competition’s top 10. Central shot a 633 as a team ahead of schools like Midland Legacy (641) and several El Paso Schools.

Although the Bobcats did not make State as a team, Junior Colin Leonard qualified for state in the singles. After a lengthy rain delay, Leonard was tied for the last qualified spot with two other competitors. A playoff ensued, and Leonard claimed victory.
