TLCA Overpowers Ballinger With Overwhelming Defense

BALLINGER, TX — The TLCA Eagles Boys and Girls Basketball teams traveled to Ballinger on Tuesday night, Jan. 10, for a district matchup against the Ballinger Bearcats.

TLCA EAGLES 68 BEARCATS 22

TLCA’s smothering defense proved a problem for the Bearcats for the entire game. The Eagles shot out of the gates with a 15-3 run in the first quarter. Missed shots and turnovers from Ballinger gave the Eagles easy baskets in transition. TLCA drove the lane multiple times throughout the first half and got to the line when Ballinger committed several fouls. The Eagles led at the break 36-12.

Ballinger played better defense in the third quarter. They even made a couple of three-point shots to push their point total over 20. However, the Eagles smothered the Bearcats in the fourth quarter and completely shut them out. Offensively, TLCA continued to churn like a well-oiled machine and added 13 points in the third quarter and another 19 points in the fourth. The Eagles showed how good they could be when their shots fell and claimed another district victory, 68-22.

TLCA LADY EAGLES 17 LADY CATS 65

Ballinger fared much better in the early game as they dominated the Lady Eagles throughout the contest. The Lady Cats, who threatened the state-ranked Lady Hawks last Friday, showed everyone in attendance that they could play ball. Ballinger outscored the Lady Eagles 25-8 in the first quarter and then 21-5 in the second to lead 46-13 at halftime. The scoring continued in the second half, and the Lady Cats completely shut out TLCA in the third quarter. Ballinger won 65-17.

The Lady Eagles continue to play hard in every single game, but they are just not quite there yet. They have a good head coach in Mylin Goodloe, and she will continue to help these ladies improve. A young program will always have growing pains; if the Lady Eagles continue to work hard, the wins will come.

Lizzie Lopez led the Lady Eagles with 4 points.

Hostetter led the Lady Cats with 16 points.

TLCA (2-16)(0-5) host the Coahoma Lady Bulldogs (8-14)(1-5) in San Angelo on Friday, Jan. 13, at 6:15 p.m.

Ballinger (15-9)(3-3) visits the Grape Creek Lady Eagles (3-15)(1-5) in Grape Creek on Friday, Jan. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
