Wall Boys and Girls Basketball Beat the Bearcats

WALL, TX — The Wall Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams saw district action against the Ballinger Bearcats on Friday, Jan. 6, at Wall High School in Wall. The no. 9 ranked Lady Hawks played the early game and, despite turnover issues for much of the second half, secured victory 40-27. The Boys followed after and dominated Ballinger throughout their entire contest. The Hawks move to 3-0 in their district with a 53-23 victory.

LADY HAWKS

The Lady Hawks outmatched Ballinger on the hardwood on Friday. Size and physicality saw Wall jump out to an early lead in the first quarter. However, the Lady Cats played tough and took advantage of several missed shots from the Lady Hawks to stay in the game and only trail by five points at halftime.

Turnovers and missed shots kept Ballinger around in the second half, and at one point, the Lady Cats came within four points of Wall. Shooting woes continued for Wall, but So. Point Guard Brylyn Watts did not share her teammates' malady. She hit several shots from beyond the arc to begin the second half, and her scoring barrage continued into the fourth quarter. Her clutch performance put Ballinger away late in the 4th quarter.

Watts finished with 21 points, more than half of the Lady Hawks’ 40 point-total.

Wall travels to Coahoma to face the Bulldogs at Coahoma High School on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6:15 p.m.
